An automatic transfer switch (ATS) is used to automatically switch an electrical load from the main power supply to a backup power source when the main supply fails.
For example:Kenya power(main supply)>power fails>ATS automatically switches to Generator/Inverter/Solar backup>Main power returns>ATS switches back to Kenya Power.

Main uses of ATS
-Automatic backup power:No need to manually operate a changeover switch.

-Fast power restoration:Reduces interruption when the main supply fails.

Generator automation:Some ATS systems can signal an automatic start generator to start during a blackout and stop when main power returns.

-Protects critical loads: Useful for hospitals,offices,data systems, factories, homes and commercial buildings.

NB:An ATS does not generate electricity, it's only transters the load between two available power sources..
